In Pattaya, as in all of Thailand, people have a lot of respect for older folks and usually they are addressed as Pee meaning older brother or sister. A term of endearment for youngsters is calling them Nong which means little brother or sister. In restaurants is better to address the staff as Pee or Nong than waiter or waitress. [more]

As mentioned the head is the most sacred part of the body and one should not touch any one in the head in public. The feet are the least sacred part and the plant of feet or sole of shoes should not be shown.

Remember Monks are sacred too, and women should never touch one.

Thai society considers unacceptable expressions of affection in public. Kisses hugs should not be publicly displayed. Is not seen in good taste speaking loudly or being noisy and is considered disrespectful.

Thai names are so long... so all have nicknames; traditionally they are monosyllables like Lek, Na, Sun, Som, Tae and Pook among others.

In Thailand, Radio and TV stations broadcast the national anthem daily at 8:00 am and 6:00 pm and can be heard in the street's loud speakers, Thais stop all activities (except in Bangkok, where no one can hear because of the noise) and stands, visitors are expected to do the same.

Drinking and driving is illegal. The minimum drinking age is 20

Pattaya is in general a safe place but there are problems with pickpockets specially in crowded places and at night on Walking Street. Allways avoid dark areas.

Drugs and gambling are also illegal activities in Pattaya and the police has a Zero tolerance for these kind of offenses. Same applies for sex with minors; the minimun age is 18.
