The Art of Bargaining

First of all, this is part of their culture, it is expected for you to make an offer, and most stores don't have prize tags! Pattaya's traders are skilled professionals! So don't appear to be very interested on the item, don't pay attention to the calculator, they will asses your interest and price it accordingly. So don't get tempted to put your price in the calculator, shop around first and offer to pay 10% of what they are asking, and go from there, but in a disinterested manner.

Pattaya's Shopping has also boomed, changing towards a more sophisticated shopper. The Royal Garden Plaza is soon to be expanded with a Central Department Store which is building a new mall in downtown.

No vacation is complete without tanking home a good bargain worth for bragging rights. In Pattaya you will have the opportunity to show off your "Master Negotiator Skills" head on to South Pattaya area for major gems, jewelry, silk cotton and local handcrafts and have the time of your life! Pattaya 2 Road also has several handicraft and silk shops. A multi-million dollar shopping center recently opened on North Pattaya Road after the night market, it has bazaars, shopping arcade a food court complete with small bars, nightclubs and outdoor restaurants.

Gems and Jewelry

Jewelry is sold everywhere in Pattaya, but be wary of fake gem scams. It is best to buy them from a government approved location bearing the JFC seal; retailers will display the logo in prominent places in the store; the benefit of this accreditation, besides the obvious authenticity of the stone, is the outstanding offer of money back guarantee.

Thai Antiques

Thai antiques, Chinese, Burmese and Khmer antiques are excellent buys. Certain categories of antiques are restricted, particularly Buddha images. Others pieces may require an export license, but any reputable dealer will be able to advise you the appropriate restrictions and necessary documentation.
