By Air

There are many direct flights to Bangkok from almost anywhere in the world including London, Paris Amsterdam, Madrid and Frankfurt; Bangkok is the international entry port into Thailand as well as mayor hub to Laos, Nepal, Cambodia and Vietnam. Since the opening of Bangkok's new airport the number of flights is expected to increase.

The national airline is Thai Airways International (www.thaiairways.com ) and several other airlines service the country. Most flights will go into Bangkok or Phuket airport during their high season, but since the distance to Pattaya is about 100 km from Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok's new international airport) many will consider taking the one hour bus ride.

U-Tapao Airport

Improvements made to Pattaya's small regional airport, just about 30 km south of Pattaya, have opened more access and now Bangkok Airways (www.bangkokair.com) provides daily flights connecting Ko Samui and U-Tapao Airport. Bangkok Airways has services from several cities including Phuket to U-Tapao. PMT Air has flights from Siem Reap and TransAereo from Moscow. Charter flights regularly connect U-Tapao with Europe and other destinations in Asia.

By Train

If you want to take a scenic trip to Pattaya, take the train. This service departs from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong station early in the morning at 6:50; it takes about 4 hours and it can be a nice break from the rush hour traffic; by the way, this is an extremely cheap way to travel. Trains arrive near Pattaya at the Siam Country Club and then you can take a short ride on a tuk-tuk to Pattaya's Beach Resort & hotel area.

By Boat

The opening of the Leam Chabang deep-sea port, at only 25 Km from Pattaya has led to many infrastructural improvements. Cruise ships can be chartered from Pattaya, while cruise liners regularly use the resort beach as a port of call. Cruise lines calling at Thailand include Orient Lines, Princes Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Silversea and Seabourn.

By Bus

Busses are the cheapest means to get to Pattaya and operate frequently from Bangkok and other towns. There are buses with and without air conditioning and the prices vary starting at about 100 baht. They depart from the two main stations in Bangkok: Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekkamai) and Northern Bus Terminal (Mochit II) on Kamphaengphet Road. Services run every 30 minutes from 5 am to 11 pm. In addition, there are minibuses traveling directly from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to Pattaya at 9:00 am; 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm daily. It takes about 2.5 hours to get there depending on the route since some make more stops than others. Most hotels in Bangkok provide bus services to Pattaya. Check beforehand for schedules and rates with your hotel.
