At the heart of Pattaya is the Gulf of Siam. The beaches that line the Gulf of Siam including Pattaya Beach and Jomtien Beach are the focus of the resorts, nightlife and recreation of Pattaya.

Beaches of the Gulf of Siam

Pattaya's primary beaches are very popular. Travelers who enjoy being active will love the banana-boat rides, water-skiing, jet-skiing, windsurfing, parasailing and swimming available at these beaches. If you prefer to recline, soak up the sun or have a drink or two the beaches of the Gulf of Siam are perfect.

Pattaya Beach is a crowded beach that is very popular. The beach is very clean and there are pretty high fines for littering. The water in the area is a bit murky so the beach is most popular with sun worshippers who enjoy relaxing on the beach.

Jomtien Beach is borders Pattaya Beach and is very popular with families including Thai families. There are many places to eat and stay on Jomtien Beach. The promenade is very active and the area in front of Avalon Beach Resort is quite popular with gay visitors.

Water Sports & Activities in Gulf of Siam

Divers and swimmers love the Gulf of Siam. You can enjoy a swim at Pattaya Beach though many swimmers prefer Jomtien Beach. Diving is better at nearby islands than it is directly on the shore of Pattaya because the water tends to have lower visibility near Pattaya.

At any given time on the Gulf of Siam you can see people enjoying many water sports including: water skiing, yachting, sailing, rowing and jet skiing. It is pretty easy to arrange for a rental and generally the pricing is very good.

The more adventurous travelers can try their hand a parasailing. Boats pick up participants at the Bali Hi pier to take you out to the pontoons. Safety is important so you can expect lessons and instructions before beginning.

Keep your eye on the weather report because parasailing, yachting, sailing and many other activities are contingent on the weather.

Gulf of Siam and the 2004 Tsunami

Fortunately the Gulf of Siam and Pattaya were not impacted by the 2004 Tsunami that devastated entire towns, villages and cities. In fact, vacationers in the resorts and hotels around the Gulf of Siam in Pattaya were spared any impact from the Tsunami and their safety was never at risk.
